Lifting The Veil on a Bridal Staple

We have seen it many times - a bride-to-be comes in to our Birmingham bridal shop with her nearest and dearest and finds a wedding dress that she loves… but that moment when a wedding veil is added the the room lights up! It’s like some kind of magic fairy dust that ignites a bridal look instantly.

Bridal veils have been used as early as the Roman times when it is believed that they were worn to ward off evil spirits. Throughout the 18th century veils were sidelined in favour of caps, tiaras and other hair accessories instead. However, we saw a resurgence in the 19th century with Queen Victoria donning a beautiful square Honiton lace veil… And the image of 'a bride' was cemented for centuries to come.

The Finishing Touch

There are so many veil styles to choose from with varying lengths, materials and designs which is where we can advise on what could work best with the dress you have chosen. Even if you haven’t purchased your wedding dress from us here at Lief bridal in Birmingham, you are more than welcome to come here to shop for your veil, cover ups and any other bridal accessories.

Cathedral length veil: Flowing far beyond the edge of the wedding dress, these are the longest veils you can find, often starting from around 300cm in length. If you’re after the wow factor, a cathedral length veil is where it’s at.

Chapel length veil: A little shorter than the cathedral length veil, but still draping beyond the edge of the brides wedding dress by a few inches.

Birdcage veil: These short veils cover just part of the face, and have a real vintage vibe about them. Paired with a short wedding dress gives a 50’s feel, or could look ultra modern with a wedding jumpsuit!
